LinkedIn Post Text: Thermal imaging AI faces a training data problem. Most datasets contain only a few thousand images.We didn’t train the thermal AI model from scratch. That would require hundreds of thousands of images.Instead, we used transfer learning – starting with a colour-trained model that already understands edges, textures, and object features from massive datasets.Then we retrained it on thermal images to learn how those same features appear in infrared.This leverages the knowledge from hundreds of thousands of colour images whilst only needing a few thousand thermal images for domain adaptation.Same principle as teaching someone who understands photography to interpret thermal imagery – the fundamentals transfer.https://bit.ly/49goizG
